New arts organisation, Framed, curates first exhibition

Framed Edinburgh, the city’s newest arts organisation, will be launched on the 6th of May 2011 with their first exhibition ‘Letters from Iberia’ which runs until the 3rd of June 2011.

Framed Edinburgh will bring a mix of up and coming artists from cultural centres around the world in exciting collaborative projects including public art installations, exhibitions, round table talks programmes and music events.

The aim of Framed Edinburgh is to create a vibrant and easily accessible underground art scene in the city which, excluding August, is currently dominated by conservative art establishments.

‘Letters from Iberia’ brings together artists from Spain and Portugal in a mix of sculptural, pictorial and installation art.

Creative Director, Alan Connell Forgie had this to say about the exhibition: “Despite the political and cultural constraints of the past 100 years, the Iberian art scene is now going through a  period of dynamism, energy and great artistic effort. Framed will be celebrating what is a completely unique element within the European contemporary arts scene.”

The gallery will be the flagship venue for the project. Edinburgh’s newest gallery will be joining two other newcomers at Gayfield Square next to the former site of the Doggerfisher Gallery.

The space will be renovated to create an exciting exhibition and events venue and its opening will coincide with the launch of the Framed website which will feature all of the artists exhibiting as well as work by local Edinburgh artists including animators, film makers and photographers.

Business Director, Neill Connell Forgie, comments “This organic project has been exciting to put together. We want to create an edgy show that gives people that surprise factor. This is set to be an incredible mixture of talent from the Spanish contemporary art world providing people with a rare opportunity to buy an original piece of art from International talent who have work exhibited all over the world”

All artwork in the gallery will be on sale during the exhibition, prices start from £500.
