Here’s a story for theatre fans who don’t live in the Capital. City Screen have signed a deal to broadcast plays live from the Edinburgh Festival into their Picturehouse cinemas (throughout the UK) at the end of August.

Variety reports the live transmission, dubbed “Traverse Live!,” will beam live broadcasts of the Traverse Theater’s “Impossible Things Before Breakfast” — five specially commissioned new plays by Marina Carr, David Eldridge, Linda McLean, Simon Stephens and Enda Walsh to their screens in real-time. The City Screen group have also signed a deal with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, which will see it screen live “The Rake’s Progress” on Aug. 21 and pre-recorded operas “Billy Budd” (Aug. 24) and “Hansel and Gretel”.
