Print Noir
New works in print by Gregor A McAlpine.
Part travelogue, part dialogue, part filmic journey – memories, myths and the seemingly mundane combine with autobiographical references to create linked stories. Drawn from travels to Denmark, Germany, Italy, USA and indeed the UK, McAlpine creates poetic images that can be viewed independently or as part of a whole. His detailed prints have figurative and landscape references ranging from the small to large scale. He completed the foundation course at Leith School of Art with the legendary Mark and Lottie Cheverton, and then went on to the Edinburgh College of Art, where he gained a BA in Printmaking and an MFA in Printmaking. Since graduating, he has led many workshops at The Leith School of Art and elsewhere. McAlpine has lived and worked as an artist in Italy and Germany and is now based in Edinburgh. He continues to produce and develop his own work in print, drawing and mixed media whilst pursuing an active interest in art history.
