Curve Foundation’s 3 New Dance Premiers

Posted by Billy to The Blog on September 25th

If you could hold one of Ohad Naharin’s dances in your hand, it would feel smooth. Think of a polished stone. It looks like a piece of secret sculpture, but hurl it and it becomes a weapon.” Deborah Jowitt Village Voice NYC

The Curve Foundation Dance Company is to be the first Scottish dance company to present a piece by esteemed choreographer Ohad Naharin. The UK premiere of Passo Mezzo will be the first of three pieces they will tour throughout Scotland and abroad this autumn. They will also feature O Caritas – with music by Cat Stevens – a piece by Peter Darrell, the founder of Scottish Ballet. And finally Close-Up, by Fernando Magadan, the first of his pieces to be premiered outside Netherland Dance Theatre. This includes an art installation inspired by Turner Prize winner Martin Creed.

The Curve Foundation Dance Company was founded in 1997 at North Edinburgh Arts Centre and has evolved to work with some of the greatest pioneers from the world of dance, including; Merce Cunningham, William Forsythe, Michael Clark and Hofesh Shechter. With beautiful dancers from traditional and modern

Backgrounds, and music styles ranging from contemporary to classical, The Curve Foundation Dance Company is a sleek and innovative force in the Scottish dance scene and is moulding itself into Scotland’s most distinctive and exciting young repertory dance company working today.

“Curve serves up a classy programme with an air of untroubled ease that belies just how challenging the choreography is.” Mary Brennan The Herald 2005

Ross Cooper thinks big – the best dancers, the most interesting choreographers, diverse programmes.” Kelly Apter The Scotsman 2005

The company also teaches an extensive education programme throughout East Lothian and Scotland. They are an independent modern repertory dance company, and are supported by Brunton Theatre and the Scottish Arts Council.
